APPLE TREE's 3D-printed "Lattice" pillow, using bio-materials & honeycomb design for perfect support, launches on Makuake Dec 17.
Headquartered in Osaka, APPLE TREE, a company dedicated to developing daily necessities using 3D printers and advanced materials, has created a new structural pillow, 'Lattice'. Utilizing the latest photopolymerization 3D printing technology and bio-based materials, the company will begin accepting support for 'Lattice' on the crowdfunding platform "Makuake" starting December 17, 2025. This product is a next-generation pillow that achieves the simultaneous realization of "softness" and "firm support"—a balance difficult to attain until now—thanks to the precise structural design uniquely enabled by 3D printing.
The standout feature of 'Lattice' lies in its internal design, which applies the hexagonal honeycomb structure also found in nature. Countless cells of varying hardness disperse the pressure applied by the head and neck, providing a natural fit whether sleeping on one's back or side. Fabricated with 3D printing technology capable of modeling at an accuracy of 0.05mm or less, it creates support that neither sinks too deeply nor causes discomfort from pressure.
The material used is the next-generation bio-material "ELASTO1000 Bio." This material is characterized by having the softness of polyurethane while being strong against stretching and impact, and possessing high restorative force. It is resistant to sagging even with long-term use, stably supporting nightly sleep. Another major appeal is that it is a bio-based material with a 53% bio-originated content, including plant-derived components, balancing comfort with environmental consideration.
Manufacturing employs ultra-high-speed photopolymerization 3D printers to achieve seamless, monolithic molding. As it is designed with density optimized for each area, it flexibly follows even subtle head movements without hindering natural turning during sleep. This is a unique strength of 3D printing technology that was difficult to reproduce with traditional urethane or cotton pillows.
Furthermore, thanks to its hollow structure, 'Lattice' is fully washable and dries quickly after washing. It resists moisture retention, maintaining a consistently clean state, making it suitable also for users who prioritize allergy prevention and hygiene. The design allows air to pass through internally, reducing stuffiness and enabling comfortable use regardless of the season.
Weighing approximately 0.7 kg, it is lightweight and compact enough to fit in a backpack or suitcase. The ability to carry the same comfortable sleep experience from home during business trips or travel presents a new value not found in previous pillows.
This project will solicit support from December 17, 2025, to February 17, 2026, with reward shipments scheduled for the end of March 2026. Specially discounted rewards offering up to 50% off are available in limited quantities, drawing attention as exclusive early-support perks on Makuake. Great expectations are now placed on the new sleep experience created by 3D printers and 3D printing technology.
