HP Additive Manufacturing and Hyperion Materials & Technologies announced a preferred-partner agreement on October 28 to expand commercial access to tungsten carbide additive manufacturing.

Hyperion installed an HP Metal Jet S100 at its Barcelona production facility during October. The workflow combines binder jetting with Hyperion’s CarbiForm powders, sintering and finishing expertise. The companies say the powders have been tested with the printer and Hyperion’s sintering process.

Manufacturing capability is available through Hyperion, while the partners will work with customers to identify and qualify suitable applications. Proposed benefits include more complex geometries and consolidated components; these are opportunities described by the companies, rather than independently measured outcomes.

HP plans to present the technology at Formnext in Frankfurt on November 17–20.
