Mini Commodore 1084 from a 3D printer: YouTuber builds 8-inch monitor for Amiga A500 Mini and C64 Mini

Retro hardware modders often turn to new solutions for today’s mini consoles to bring the setup closer to the originals in terms of appearance and practicality. The YouTube channel “Press any Key to Continue” shows a miniature replica of the Commodore 1084 monitor. The project combines an 8-inch LCD with a 3D-printed case based on the design of the 1980s models and intended to match the Amiga A500 Mini and Commodore 64 Mini.
The starting point was the desire for a compact screen that echoes the style of the classic Commodore monitors. The maker focused on the 1081 and 1084 models, which he considers to be defining variants of the C64 and Amiga era. Instead of a picture tube, the replica uses modern display technology. At its heart is an inexpensive 8-inch LCD, originally intended as a camera monitor. According to the YouTuber, the device costs around $70 and offers HDMI, analog connections, an integrated speaker, and a remote control.
For the conversion, the modder dismantled the camera monitor and not only continued to use the remote control, but also integrated it into the front of the mini monitor. Before making his final choice, he tested several LCD options. The housing was created in Fusion 360 and printed on a Bambu Lab A1. The design is simplified but consists of several parts: a gray frame, a sliding chassis, a back cover with speaker mounts, and a cover for connections.
After removing the support structures, the components could be assembled. He used the original LCD brackets for assembly. He rounded off the look with stickers featuring the Commodore logo and model numbers.
