ROSA3D has launched two foaming formula filaments, PLA LW AERO and TPU Flex LW, which can reduce the weight of printed parts by up to 2.5 times compared to standard materials while maintaining identical dimensions.

During printing, the material expands slightly to form a porous internal structure. This not only significantly reduces weight but also creates an exceptionally smooth surface with nearly invisible layer lines, making it easy to paint, sand, and machine.
PLA LW AERO is suitable for applications requiring rigidity, such as props, decorations, large-scale models, and RC components. TPU Flex LW, on the other hand, is softer and offers better shock absorption, making it ideal for parts that need to absorb vibration, such as handles, gaskets, and insoles.
For cosplayers, lightweight armor has gone from a dream to reality. For flying model enthusiasts, where every gram counts, both materials perform excellently in applications such as drones and wing structures.
Foaming begins at 220°C and is controlled by temperature, with optimal results achieved in the 240–260°C range. An extrusion multiplier of approximately 0.4 is recommended. Due to differences in hotend design, users should calibrate flow rates on their own to fully realize the material’s potential.
