Outdoor 3D printing has long faced a dilemma: if you want it light, you have to sacrifice strength or weather resistance; if you want weather resistance, the weight won't come down.

PLA-LW is light enough but can't handle long-term sun exposure, while standard ASA offers excellent weather resistance but is on the heavy side. eSUN's newly launched ASA-LW takes a different approach—building active foaming technology on top of ASA's weather-resistant DNA. Printed parts weigh just 50% of standard ASA while retaining ASA's heat resistance and UV resistance, with a heat deflection temperature of around 80°C—enough for outdoor high-temperature and sun-exposed scenarios.
Printing performance is also worth mentioning: the surface has a fine matte finish, layer lines are almost invisible, and both strength and toughness are solid. For applications like model aircraft skins and drone housings, where both weight and surface quality matter, it works quite smoothly.
The application directions are clear: fixed-wing model aircraft, FPV drones, and boat models can reduce wing loading and extend flight time; equipment housings, protective covers, and outdoor structural parts can withstand UV and temperature swings; large architectural models and display models become much easier to transport and install after weight reduction. Cosplay props, wearable models, and fishing gear are also covered.
More importantly, ASA-LW fills the "outdoor rigid lightweight" slot in eSUN's lightweight material matrix. Previously, PLA-LW focused on low density and easy processing, while TPU-LW and PEBA-LW handled flexible foaming. Now the outdoor weather-resistance gap is filled. Lightweighting is evolving from single-point products into scenario-based solutions—for users who constantly battle weight and weather resistance, this is more noteworthy than the launch of just another new material.
