3D Printing Revolutionizes Lacrosse Equipment: EOS Empowers Maverik to Launch Innovative "Ball Stop"

In the pursuit of ultimate performance in sports equipment, 3D printing is becoming a key innovation engine. Recently, lacrosse equipment brand Maverik, in collaboration with industrial-grade 3D printing leader EOS, successfully launched a 3D-printed ball stop manufactured using powder bed fusion technology, infusing this ancient sport with cutting-edge technology.
Designed specifically for Maverik's high-end stick series, the core innovation of this ball stop lies in completely abandoning the traditional glue-based installation method. By integrating a unique snap-fit mechanism, players can securely attach the ball stop to the head of the stick with a simple press, significantly simplifying the assembly process.
A more important breakthrough lies in its internal structure. Leveraging the design freedom of 3D printing, the ball stop incorporates a flexible lattice construction impossible to achieve with traditional injection molding. This structure not only enables lightweighting but also optimizes the feel and ball control feedback during play.
"We chose additive manufacturing because it breaks through the geometric constraints of molds," explained the project lead. "We can design the ideal internal structure without considering draft angles and directly integrate the snap-fit functionality."
Performance tests indicate that the new ball stop is comparable to traditional products in weight and cost, but with significantly enhanced functionality. Currently, Maverik has produced over 5,000 units of the ball stop using EOS systems, validating the scalability potential of this technology in the small-batch, high-performance sports equipment sector.
Early trial feedback has been positive, particularly capturing the interest of players under 16 years old, who show great enthusiasm for this product integrating new technology. In the future, Maverik plans to expand the 3D-printed ball stop to more professional and innovative product lines and explore custom color options for different teams.
As lacrosse moves towards its next millennium, digital manufacturing technologies represented by 3D printing are continuously driving sports equipment evolution towards higher performance through structural innovation, functional integration, and personalization.
