French luxury jewelry brand Boucheron has announced the launch of its new Quatre Sand capsule collection. Designed under the creative direction of Claire Choisne, the series features seven bold open bracelets and bangles that skillfully blend black sand with gold through the use of 3D printing technology. Boucheron stated that the Quatre Sand collection fully embodies the brand's consistent pioneering spirit and experimental aesthetics, further advancing the jewelry industry's ongoing exploration of innovative materials and craftsmanship.
3D Printing Transforms Black Sand into Jewelry

The Quatre Sand collection is a reinterpretation of the brand's Quatre line, which is also known for its contrast between black and more traditional haute joaillerie materials (primarily white gold and diamonds in this collection). However, the Quatre Sand series introduces a groundbreaking approach and a bolder, more monumental style. This unconventional technique is, of course, the 3D printing process.

Boucheron explained: "This process binds sand grains together using a glue-like polymer, building up layers only one millimeter thick, resembling a mille-feuille. This innovative technique in jewelry imparts remarkable strength to the material while preserving the texture of the sand, showcasing an original aesthetic true to Boucheron's pioneering spirit."
During the production process, after treatment to remove excess binder, the black sand structure is precisely assembled onto a gold frame to form the bracelets and bangles. The smoothness and luster of the gold create a striking contrast with the dark color, granular texture, and geometric forms of the black sand, demonstrating a perfect fusion of jewelry and materials science.
Boucheron's Quatre Sand capsule collection features wide cuffs, 2 bangles of the same concept, and 4 brushed gold bracelets, all crafted from black sand and gold.
The Quatre Sand collection is Boucheron's latest capsule series, aimed at exploring innovative technologies and non-traditional materials. Since 2020, Boucheron has committed to launching such forward-thinking collections annually. Last year, the brand introduced the Quatre 5D Memory ring, which utilizes Glassomer technology to encode a sound piece developed by the IRCAM at the Centre Pompidou into its design. In 2020, Quatre rings and cuffs incorporated the unconventional material denim, paired surprisingly well with white gold and diamonds. Choisne had previously applied sand-colored 3D printing technology to jewelry design and used this technique in the Or Bleu collection launched in 2024, which was inspired by the waters of Iceland.
