The non-profit organization Lust auf besser leben has launched the open source project ReUseMe, which uses 3D printed bag exchange stations to keep unused shopping bags in circulation and reduce the need to purchase new ones.

The exchange station features a modular design and can be fully 3D printed, with the ability to be repaired, expanded, and customized to individual needs. Currently, approximately 30 bag stations have been established in and around Frankfurt, located in public libraries, bakeries, and small shops. The concept is simple: people can drop off clean shopping bags or take one when needed.
The project emphasizes open hardware and localized production. It now invites makerspaces, FabLabs, educational institutions, and 3D printing enthusiasts to participate by providing free print files, a user manual, and a station generator tool, encouraging local production or printing support.
