YouTuber Hyperspace Pirate has used 3D printing technology to create a fully functional diving helmet and has released the 3D model for free.

Unlike typical prop pieces, this project was tested in actual underwater environments.
Before printing, the developer carried out the necessary calculations for underwater use and used a cardboard mockup to determine the dimensions of their own head. The 3D model is available on Thingiverse and can be adjusted according to the wearer’s head circumference. The helmet body is printed in ABS, assembled from multiple parts that are bonded together, and the exterior surface is reinforced with glass fiber and epoxy resin. The developer specifically notes that polyester resin should be avoided, as it will dissolve the ABS. This composite structure ensures the helmet remains sealed under mechanical stress.
The helmet is equipped with a 1/4-inch SAE fitting for air supply, with air provided by a compressor. In the final setup, the compressor, inverter, and battery are secured to a float that remains above the water surface, connected to the helmet only by a hose. The developer warns against using a gasoline-powered compressor, as exhaust gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide could enter the breathing air through the hose; oily air is also a hazard.
