The Czech studio Fungamental designed a light wall for the Skoda Auto headquarters, consisting of 50 Skoda Superb headlights and a set of 3D-printed grille strips.

The grille strips extend seamlessly from the wall to the ceiling, manufactured using large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) and non-planar printing technology, with the modeling done using Rhino software's NURBS surfaces.
Non-planar printing allows the print head to change its angle to follow curved surfaces, enabling complex geometries with bends and twists without the need for assembly. Compared to traditional processes such as CNC milling and thermoforming, 3D printing requires no molds, making design modifications flexible and efficient.
This wall is not just a lighting system; it also reinforces the brand image through its iconic headlights, demonstrating the immense potential of combining robotic 3D printing with parametric design. Each grille strip is custom-printed to form a continuously flowing curved surface, elevating the project beyond decoration to a level where art and engineering merge.
