Collaboration blends advanced metal 3D printing, maritime heritage, and regional engagement in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

LISI Aerospace Additive Manufacturing, a division of LISI Group specializing in metal additive manufacturing for aerospace and space applications, has entered a partnership with the Hermione–La Fayette Association to support the restoration of the historic frigate L’Hermione. The collaboration brings together industrial innovation, cultural heritage, and social responsibility in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwestern France.
Headquartered in Rochefort, France, the Hermione–La Fayette Association is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of L’Hermione, a replica of the 18th-century frigate that carried the Marquis de La Fayette to the United States in 1780 to support the American War of Independence.
Discover how LISI and Hermione–La Fayette are collaborating to restore the historic frigate L’Hermione and promote cultural heritage.Currently, the ship is undergoing extensive restoration at an estimated total cost of €10 million ($11 million). Half of the work has been funded and completed, but the association must raise an additional €1.5 million ($1.6 million) to continue repairs and sustain its operations.
For the 2025 holiday season, LAAM and the Hermione–La Fayette Association are releasing a limited edition of collectible decorative anchors that combine high-performance metallic materials with authentic wood recovered from L’Hermione’s ongoing restoration. Each piece is produced using LAAM’s precision additive manufacturing technology and assembled locally by the association’s teams, integrating social inclusion initiatives and supporting local employment.
The collection symbolizes the meeting of maritime craftsmanship and advanced French industrial expertise. All production takes place in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, where the project engages local workers in a solidarity-based effort that connects artisans, technicians, and engineers.
