Protolabs links the expansion to demand from aerospace, defense and drone manufacturers. The company reported more than 40% year-over-year growth in U.S. Multi Jet Fusion revenue through the third quarter of 2026.

More room for production runs

Protolabs announced on November 3 that it had increased its HP Jet Fusion 5600 series capacity by 50%. The company cited rising demand from aerospace, defense and drone manufacturers for lightweight prototypes and production parts. The release did not specify the number of machines added.

Multi Jet Fusion allows multiple parts to share a build. Protolabs says the 5600 series can accommodate denser builds, which gives the factory more room to batch orders as demand grows.

Demand from drone manufacturers

Protolabs reported that Multi Jet Fusion revenue through its U.S. factories rose more than 40% year over year through the third quarter of 2026. Drone customers contributed to that growth. The company says it serves more than 100 drone manufacturers and that revenue from the drone segment has risen more than 90% since 2023.

Protolabs produces these parts in North Carolina using PA12 nylon. The company says the site is registered under ITAR and holds AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certifications.
