The company’s cellulose acetate resin CAFBLO now complements advanced epoxies and caprolactone-based materials designed for high-performance additive manufacturing.
Global materials supplier Daicel recently announced the expansion of its 3D printing materials portfolio with the launch of a new sustainable resin, CAFBLO, focusing on environmental friendliness and high performance.
CAFBLO is a marine-biodegradable cellulose acetate resin. Supplied in pellet form, it is suitable for large-format granulate 3D printing (LFAM/FGF) and can be used to create large-scale objects such as sculptures and furniture. Primarily derived from natural cellulose, this material can be broken down by microorganisms in seawater into water and carbon dioxide, while also offering high transparency and recyclability.
CAFBLO can be used in conjunction with Daicel's existing portfolio of cycloaliphatic epoxy resins and caprolactone-based materials, forming material solutions that balance sustainability and performance. The company is committed to providing diverse material options for the manufacturing industry, ranging from injection-molded consumer goods to precision 3D-printed components, responding to the growing global demand for recyclable and energy-efficient materials.

In addition to CAFBLO, Daicel has simultaneously updated its high-performance resin lineup:
Celloxide 2021P: A low-viscosity cycloaliphatic epoxy resin. After curing, it offers high transparency and excellent heat resistance, making it suitable for optical-grade 3D printing and encapsulation.
Cyclomer M100: A highly reactive methacrylate monomer that supports rapid curing and precision molding.
Placcel Series: Caprolactone-modified (meth)acrylate derivatives that allow flexible adjustment of resin properties such as flexibility, transparency, and curing performance.
As 3D printing adoption deepens within manufacturing, Daicel focuses on providing materials with stable performance and processing-friendly characteristics. Its polymer systems feature low shrinkage and fast curing, supporting direct manufacturing from functional prototypes to end-use parts. A robust quality control system ensures stable global supply.
The launch of this material series marks a step forward in the application of sustainable materials within high-performance additive manufacturing, offering designers and manufacturers new choices between environmental responsibility and product quality.
